IND vs ZIM LIVE – India vs Zimbabwe 3rd ODI LIVE: Selectors and fans alike will breathe a sigh of relief as Deepak Chahar has got all clear to play the third ODI against Zimbabwe. It should be noted that Deepak Chahar played the first ODI and bowled 7 overs on the trot. It turned out to be a brilliant strategy as his 3/27 with some fantastic swinging deliveries rattled Zimbabwe. He did not field for long in the 1st ODI either. It raised speculations about whether it was all okay with him. But as things stand, it was a precautionary measure to rest him for 2nd ODI.

“Deepak will play integral part in white-ball formats in future series. So, we have to take care of his workload. Yes, it’s not right to put him off his rhythm after such a terrific spell. But at the same time, we have to ensure that he bowls more such terrific spells in other series. That is the reason, he was not played in the 2nd match,” the BCCI official added.

IND vs ZIM LIVE: Deepak Chahar ready to roar after injury struggle

  • 30-year-old Deepak Chahar spent over six months on the sidelines first with a hamstring injury and then with a back injury.
  • He missed the IPL 2022 completely. He also missed the home series against West Indies, South Africa and the England tour.
  • As a precaution he was also not named for the West Indies tour.
  • But on return to action in Zimbabwe, he was at his brilliant best. His swinging deliveries were too hot to handle.
  • In his spell of 7 overs, he bowled 30 dot balls and bagged 3 wickets in exchange for 27 runs.
  • He was promptly rested for the 2nd ODI as a precaution.
  • But he is expected to be included in the main squad of Asia Cup 2022 ahead of Avesh Khan.
  • The third ODI against Zimbabwe on Monday will be crucial for his Asia Cup promotion.

InsideSport earlier reported that Deepak Chahar is still in contention to make the main squad of Asia Cup 2022. He was named in the reserves alongside Shreyas Iyer and Axar Patel. Avesh Khan was included in the main squad. The selectors did not want to put him in the main squad straight away as he was returning from injury. But now that it’s clear he is ready for high-intensity bowling, the selectors will give it a thought.

“Obviously, you could not have straight away selected him for the Asia Cup when he is returning from injury. We have an option to change a player before the tournament.

“We are keeping a close eye. If he does well, gets his rhythm back, we will give it a thought,” a member of the selection committee told InsideSport.
