Chasing a target of 290 runs, one would have expected Zimbabwe to surrender once again. But it wasn’t the case in the 3rd ODI. Even though Zimbabwe were off to a poor start once again, losing Innocent Kaia in the third over, Takudzwanashe Kaitano and Sean Williams took charge.

However, Zimbabwe were dealt a blow when Kaitano had to retire hurt with a leg injury. But Sean Williams and Tony Munyonga kept the scorecard ticking. The two added 41 runs. But as Indian spinners were introduced, the scoring rate dipped and the wickets kept on falling.
From 82/2, Zimbabwe lost 122/5 in 27.2 overs. With still 168 runs to chase, Sikandar Raza took charge. He held on to one end, taking on Indian pacers when the wicket eased out. With captain Regis Chakabva, he added 36 runs before Axar Patel and Kuldeep Yadav chipped in with wickets. But then the resistance began.
From 169/7, Sikandar Raza and Brad Evans took Zimbabwe to 273, adding 104 runs off 77 balls. Raza took on Shardul Thakur and Avesh Khan for 36 runs in two overs to take Zimbabwe closer to the target. Raza smashed 9 fours and 3 sixes. But with the asking rate climbing, Raza had to take the risks. In one such instance, he tried to go against Shardul Thakur but a wonderful catch at the deep to end Raza’s 115-run knock.

Earlier, KL Rahul once again won the toss and this time decided to bat first. However, Rahul and Shikhar Dhawan were off to a slow start. The two brought up a 63-run stand before Rahul fell to Brad Evans. However, he got to play 46 balls and had a good match practice before the Asia Cup. Dhawan too did not last long, departed shortly on 40. Deepak Hooda soon followed suit.
But then on, began Ishan Kishan and Shubman Gill began the attack. Although the two started slowly and took their time in the middle, Shubman was exceptional in his shot selections. He kept on ticking the scorecard and stitched together a 140-run stand for the third wicket with Ishan.
Ishan for his part, scored his 2nd ODI fifty before run-out. But Shubman did not let the opportunity go this time. He smashed his maiden ODI ton. He missed out on one in West Indies as rain forced him off the field. But this time, he scored 130 runs off 97 deliveries, consisting of 15 fours and just one 6.
However, after the Shubman show, India lost steam and lost quick wickets at the death. In the end, India managed 289/8 with Brad Evans bagging his maiden FIFER in ODIs.
