The game started on a bad note for the Men in Blue. In a slow Pune pitch, Hardik opted to bowl first rather than choosing to bat which was favorable option. The SriLankan batters took the task and went on to score huge runs on the board. The Asia Cup Champions registered 206 runs on the board with Kusal Mendis and Dasun Shanaka unleashing their carnage.
India’s opening pair of Ishan Kishan and Shubhman Gill looked quite uncomfortable from the start. Kishan was the first batter to depart in the second over after scoring just 2 runs. Gill followed next after scoring 5 runs. Fresh on his debut, Rahul Tripathi too managed just 5 runs, thereby making it a rather unimpressive debut.

Despite a rather bold and aggressive approach from Pandya, India’s top 3 batters all managed single-digit scores with the highest being 5 runs. Hardik Pandya too was disappointed with his own batting performance after managing only 12 runs, while lower down the order, Deepak Hooda scored 9 runs.
But the major concern for Pandya and Dravid would be the failure of the top order. Despite the top order having high explosive firepower, it should be noted that the top 3 are extremely inexperienced. Ishan Kishan is relatively new to the squad. On the other hand, Shubhman Gill is playing his second T20 game while Tripathi made his debut today.
