IND vs SL: Rohit Sharma: Hardik Pandya T20 Captain – Cricketer-turned-expert Gautam Gambhir has strongly put his weight behind Rohit Sharma to be the leader in the T20 format. The India skipper’s T20 leadership is under threat owing to the rise of Hardik Pandya. The Gujarat Titans captain has stepped up ably in Rohit’s absence and has delivered the results by being cool and composed. The all-rounder will also lead India during the Sri Lanka T20 series. Hardik is yet to lose a match in the five matches that he has led India. Gambhir, though believes one ICC tournament is not a parameter to judge Rohit. Follow IND vs SL Live Updates with InsideSport.IN.

“Judging Rohit Sharma by just one ICC tournament is not the parameter for us to judge him. We will have to wait and watch,” Gambhir said.

IND vs SL: What has Hardik Pandya done right to be named a permanent T20 leader – It all started with Hardik leading Gujarat Titans to victory in their maiden IPL season in 2022. The all-rounder led on 15 occasions and won 11 matches. Pandya also took more responsibility with the bat in hand and scored over 400 runs. The 29-year-old also backed players like Rahul Tewatia, David Miller, and Ferguson in tough situations. Pandya later went on to lead a young side in Ireland and impressed one and all by staying cool and composed.

Sanjay Bangar believes Pandya’s captaincy graph is quite good and is a good contender to take over from Rohit. “Hardik’s captaincy career graph is pretty good because the way he led his team to IPL Title was pretty impressive so it meant that in the long run, he’s going to be a good contender to take over Rohit Sharma when the situation arises,” Sanjay Bangar on espncricinfo.

IND vs SL: Why Gambhir still believes Rohit Sharma should be the leader of the T20 team?

· Rohit has won five IPL titles as leader of Mumbai Indians. The India skipper also has done well in the bilateral T20 series winning over 20 matches in 2022.

· The 35-year-old only captained India in only one ICC tournament, and did a decent job till semis.

· Pandya does not have a huge amount of leadership experience, but the all-rounder has grabbed his chances well in the limited opportunities that he has led.

· Gambhir believes Rohit is a proven customer and needs some time to show his caliber.

· BCCI are phasing out players in the T20 format and are not keen on a young side for T20 World Cup.
