IND vs SL LIVE – BCCI to Rishabh Pant: As the NEW YEAR party ends, the BCCI has asked Rishabh Pant to report to National Cricket Academy in Bengaluru. The message to Indian wicket-keeper batsman is loud and clear – ‘either Shape-up or Ship-out’. Pant has struggled to show any kind of consistency in WHITE-BALL cricket this year. Now he is also struggling with his fitness on account of dodgy knee and back injuries. The selectors have dropped him for INDIA vs SriLanka Series and instead asked him to train hard at NCA: Follow India vs SriLanka LIVE & Indian Cricket LIVE Updates with InsideSport.IN

“Without any doubt he is one in generation kind of player. But unfortunately his form this year has been disappointing in both ODI’s and T20’s. The coaching staff wants him to be more fitter and agile. He has been asked to train at NCA”, confirmed top source in BCCI.

Rishabh Pant in 2022: Selectors & BCCI’s message to Pant is clear, until or unless his form and fitness doesn’t comeback – he will not be picked in WHITE-BALL team. In T20’s, he has already lost his place to Ishan Kishan & Sanju Samson who are the preferred choices now.

In ODI Cricket, Ishan Kishan with a DOUBLE HUNDRED will be picked ahead of him. Other roadblock now for Pant would be KL Rahul who off-late has been keeping wickets in ODI.

Why Pant has lost his place in whiteball cricket clearly reflects in his stats for 2022.

Rishabh Pant in 2022

  • Test Cricket: 7 Matches / 680 Runs / 61.81
  • ODI Cricket: 12 Matches / 336 Runs / 37.33 (125 came against England)
  • T20 Cricket: 25 Matches / 364 Runs / 21.41 / 52*

Pant once again was star in TEST CRICKET. But is both ODI & T20 his form dwindled like anything. In ODI Cricket, other than playing 125 runs knock vs England, he struggled for consistency last 12 months.

In T20’s his form was more precarious. His average and Strike rate both took a hit in 2022. Pant could only manage 364 runs in 25 matches with a very poor average of 21.41.

There is no serious injury to him and still he hasn’t been picked for SriLanka series. That clearly shows he is not RESTED but is OMITTED from the squad.  With about 10 months left for the World Cup, an ODI return for Pant is still possible. But for that to happen he will have to do something worthwhile now.

Pant for now has been called to NCA for two weeks. He will work on his fitness and will also be on a two-week knee strengthening rehab.

Since wicketkeepers have to crouch a lot, the BCCI medical team has recommended a strengthening and conditioning session for Pant as he will play a massive role in Border Gavaskar Trophy.

His S&C session has been slotted for early New Year (Jan 3 – Jan 15).
