Rahul Dravid tested positive on August 21 two days before Team India’s departure for Dubai. He was in home isolation at his Bengaluru residence. But as he has returned two negative RT-PCR tests, BCCI made arrangement to make him to Dubai on Saturday night.

Rahul Dravid had mild symptoms and cleared the 2nd negative RT-PCR test on Saturday. He will now take the flight to Dubai from Bengaluru on Sunday morning.
In Dravid’s absence, BCCI appointed NCA director VVS Laxman as interim head coach. InsideSport earlier reported that, Dravid will rejoin the team ahead of the Super 4 stage. But as the symptoms were mild, Dravid tested negative earlier than expected.
“Team India Head Coach Rahul Dravid has tested positive for COVID-19 in a routine test conducted ahead of the team’s departure to the UAE for Asia Cup 2022. Dravid is under the supervision of the BCCI Medical team and has mild symptoms. He will join the team once he returns with a negative COVID-19 report. The rest of the team will assemble in the UAE on 23rd August, 2022,” BCCI said in a statement earlier.
Before the Asia Cup, Rahul Dravid had a two-week break following the West Indies series. Along with Dravid, batting coach Vikram Rathour and bowling coach Paras Mhambrey were also rested for the Zimbabwe tour. VVS Laxman was accompanied by Hrishikesh Kanitkar and Sairaj Bahutule for Zimbabwe tour. However, with Dravid testing positive, Laxman reached Dubai directly and took charge of Team India’s practice.
