Pant has batted 12 times at the No. 4 spot previously where he managed to score 342 runs with an average of 28.50.
India who dominated proceedings on the 1st ODI at the Oval both with the bat and ball had a rough start to their batting innings. England batted first and set a target of 247 for India to chase. Rishabh Pant who had the responsibility of rescuing the Indian innings ended up squandering a golden opportunity as he threw away his wicket. In an attempt to play a wild shot off a Brydon Carse full toss, Pant ended up playing a mistimed shot which was subsequently caught by substitute fielder Philip Salt in the mid-on region.

Though Pant was phenomenal in the fifth Test at Edgbaston his form in limited overs cricket still remains lukewarm. He becomes the first Indian wicket-keeper ever to register 3 ducks in a single calendar year in SENA countries.
