- During the 2021 Test series against England, India had played only spinner Ravindra Jadeja in all of the 4 Tests
- The all-rounder was preferred over Ashwin due to his superior batting skills. Jadeja didn’t disappoint either as he rescued the team from precarious situations.
- Ashwin though has been on the charge ever since that England series. He has picked over 50 wickets in one year and proved to be the biggest asset for the team.
- Ashwin has removed Ben Stokes a staggering 12 times and he has a good record against England team in recent times.
- Dravid will have to take a big call of playing either one spinner or both for the Edgbaston Test.

IND vs ENG Live: Graeme Swann backs Ashwin to play Edgbaston Test – Former England cricketer Graeme Swann has backed Ashwin to play the Edgbaston Test. He feels the off-spinner has a good record against England in recent times.
“Because it’s Edgbaston, I would prefer those who have played there before. Ashwin has played there and done well. It’s a wicket that will suit his type of bowling. He has a good record there, getting Alastair Cook out bowled in both innings for 13 and 0 in 2018. I would play Ashwin in any Test that India play. Not only because for what he brings on the table with his bowling but his batting as well. I think Ashwin should always get into the playing XI,”
