IND vs ENG 3rd Test – Rohit Sharma Lauds Pujara: India’s most dependable Test batsman Cheteshwar Pujara’s struggles in England have been the team’s biggest concern. Although none of the players ever spoke about it, Pujara’s lean patch meant, India struggled to add runs in the middle-order especially with Virat Kohli and Ajinkya Rahane also out of form. But Pujara brought back his vintage self, playing an unbeaten knock of 91 to lead India’s comeback. However, Rohit Sharma said that the team never discussed his form and always believed in him and never needed any video analysis to show his mistakes.

“You are talking about a guy who has played 80-odd Test matches. I don’t think he needs to be shown his videos of the past to go and do all of that. But once you are playing a Test match, you don’t want to get too much into detail about what you are going to do as a batter,” Rohit Sharma said in the pos Day 3 press conference.

IND vs ENG 3rd Test: Rohit Sharma lauds Pujara’s fighting knock, says ‘He came out today with an intent to score runs’

IND vs ENG 3rd Test – Rohit Sharma Lauds Pujara: The India opener said Cheteshwar Pujara came out today with the intent to score runs. He was aggressive throughout the day, unlike the previous innings where he was ultra-defensive and failed to soak in the pressure.

“He definitely came with an intent to score runs. This innings of hours was never about survival. We had an intent to score runs and Pujara showed that. The way he got off to a mark and carried on from there, anything loose and he was ready to pounce on shows he had an intent in his batting. Of course, runs haven’t come of late but that doesn’t mean the quality of Pujara is gone missing. It was not an easy situation to go and bat today but he showed that today,” Rohit Sharma said.

IND vs ENG 3rd Test: While Rohit, Pujara and Virat Kohli all three got runs, the team is still behind 139 runs. Rohit Sharma said that the first task will be to get those 139 runs and then think about setting a target. India are still not out of the woods and as Day 4 starts with seamers, it could go either way.

“The team’s job is not done yet. We have got a crucial couple of days coming and hopefully, Pujara keeps his head down and keeps batting the way he does. We batted poorly in the first innings. They bowled pretty good balls but it was definitely not a 78 pitch. Now the first task is to get the 139 runs and then we can think about a lead. We have to think about our gameplan to get those runs and then plan accordingly about a lead,” Rohit Sharma said.

IND vs ENG 3rd Test: On a personal note, Rohit Sharma felt for him to spend more time in the middle was an important aspect of his game apart from scoring runs. In England, he has achieved that even though he has missed the three-digit mark.

“Since I have started opening in Tests, my aim has been to spend more time in the middle apart from scoring runs. In England, the bowlers have bowled in very disciplined lines. So, I had to be patient and respect the bowlers and then wait for your time to get the chance to score runs. I have done that so far,” Rohit Sharma said. However, he isn’t concerned about missing a century once again despite going off to a good start.
