Rohit Sharma and Co worked on their sweep shots under the watchful eye of Rahul Dravid in a full training session on Tuesday. Rohit examined the pitch before heading out to the nets, where he played the conventional sweep. He also employed the reverse sweep, a shot he rarely plays in any format.
Shikhar Dhawan and Shreyas Iyer also went through the same set of drills. Dhawan also practised a few slog sweeps in the build-up to the match. Head coach Rahul Dravid and batting coach Vikram Rathour kept a close eye on the developments. Shakib Al Hasan picked up a five-wicket haul in the first ODI as India folded for 186. The conditions are set to be on the slower side again on Wednesday.

IND vs BAN 2nd ODI: Why Indian batters practised the sweep?
- India struggled against spin in the 1st ODI, with Shakib picking up a five-wicket haul.
- The sweep shot opens up different avenues for the batter adding to his repertoire.
- They are positive scoring shots, adding pressure on the bowler.
- It also opens up different angles and gaps on the field, aiding run-scoring and rotation of strike.
- Rohit, Shikhar Dhawan and Shreyas Iyer all practised the shot in training with Dravid watching closely.

After the practice session, Shikhar Dhawan justified the focus on sweep shots in the training session. The veteran India opener revealed that the conditions on offer warrant shots like the sweep. With the 2023 World Cup to be held in India in similar conditions, it was all a welcome boost for the Men in Blue.
“I enjoy playing sweep and reverse sweep, so good to practice more of that. On these types of wickets, sweep and reverse sweep are very effective. You will see more of it from our batters tomorrow. Even the World Cup next year is in India, spinners play a major role on Indian pitches, so sweep and reverse sweep will come handy. It is part of the preparation for the World Cup,” Dhawan said in a press conference.
India were bowled out for a paltry 186 in the first ODI on Sunday. Barring KL Rahul’s fighting 73, none of the Indian batsmen got runs. It eventually cost them the game with Bangladesh sealing a shock 1-0 win. Both Rohit Sharma and Rahul Dravid will hope for a better show with the bat on Wednesday, with the series on the line.
