Why are India in a precarious situation? – India did start well with wins against Pakistan and Netherlands. But on a fast and bouncy Perth pitch, India’s weaknesses got exposed. The Top 3 fell cheaply to Proteas’ firepower. While Suryakumar Yadav did rebuild, the other 10 batters combined could only post 57 runs.

Scenario 1: India win against Bangladesh and Zimbabwe. The best possible scenario for Team India is to win against Bangladesh and Zimbabwe both. Two wins will ensure India 4 points. With that, India will have a maximum of 8 points. It will be enough for India to finish in Top 2.
Scenario 2: India lose to Bangladesh. If India lose to Bangladesh, India can get eliminated. Bangladesh are third with 4 points from 3 games as India. If Bangladesh beat Pakistan in their last match, they will qualify with 8 points and knock India out.
Scenario 3: India lose to Bangladesh, Zimbabwe. If India lose to Bangladesh and win against Zimbabwe, Rohit Sharma & Co will have to depend on other results to go their way. Pakistan vs Bangladesh match will then decide India’s fate. If Pakistan beat Bangladesh, India and Bangladesh will be tied on 6 points. The NRR will then come into the equation as a tie-breaker.
Scenario 4: India win vs Bangladesh, lose to Zimbabwe. Things could also get tricky if Zimbabwe upset India somehow. India will end up with a maximum of 6 points. If Zimbabwe beat Netherlands and India, they will end up with 7 points, enough to eliminate Rohit Sharma & Co.
Scenario 5: Pakistan win against SA & Bangladesh: If Pakistan beat both SouthAfrica and Bangladesh, they will end up with six points. Hence, it will be a three-way tie in Group 2. India, Pakistan and Bangladesh will share 6 points each and the NRR will play a big role. India currently lead in NRR and would have to avoid any big defeat.
