The 3-day IPL 2023 final finally came to a conclusion as Chennai Super Kings defeated Gujarat Titans in a thriller to lift their 5th IPL title. With 10 runs needed off the last 2 balls, it looked like the fairytale ending for MS Dhoni was not meant to be. However, Jadeja had other plans as the senior all-rounder hit a six off the penultimate delivery to keep CSK’s hopes alive. With four needed off the final delivery, the calm and composed MS Dhoni was seen sitting in the dugout with his eyes closed. Jadeja then hit the final ball for the boundary and took off towards the dugout and shared a warm hug with ‘Thala’. Dhoni looked emotional as he picked Jadeja and hugged him tight. Earlier, after being put to bat first, Gujarat Titans posted a mammoth 214/ 4, the highest total in an IPL final. Sai Sudharsan was the star for the GT as he slammed 96 in 47 balls to power the side to a big total. Opener Wriddhiman Saha also made a valuable contribution with 54 off 39 balls to lay a strong foundation for a formidable total.

CSK suffered a blow as rain interrupted play at the start of the second innings. After a couple of hours delay, a revised target of 171 in 15 overs was set and CSK openers Devon Conway (47) and Rituraj Gaikwad (26) provided a brisk start. However, Noor Ahmad picked both openers in one over to turn the game. Ajinkya Rahane 27 off 13 played a brilliant knock to put CSK back in the game but Mohit Sharma picked 3 wickets in no time to turn the tide in GT’s favour. Needing 14 off the last over, Shivam Dube (32*) and Ravindra Jadeja (15 off 6 balls) kept their calm and finished the game in style.
