Fortnite has updated its Island Creator Rules, specifically addressing the use of text in lobby backgrounds. Previously, text was prohibited in these backgrounds, but this restriction has been lifted. Rule 1.19.1, which previously prohibited text, has been removed. Existing rules 1.10, 1.15.7, and 4.2 now apply to lobby backgrounds, meaning while text is now allowed, it must still adhere to guidelines regarding appropriate language, age ratings, and commercial content restrictions.
Fortnite updates Island Creator Rules
The update emphasizes that all island content, including lobby backgrounds, must remain suitable for a general audience. This means avoiding realistic violence, suggestive themes, crude humor, gore, references to gambling, and strong language. For example, lobby background images cannot include mildly sexualized depictions, threatening imagery, active gunfire, or guns pointed at the viewer.
Fortnite UPDATE (February 13, 2025), “We have a policy update. You can now use text in parts of your lobby backgrounds. Updates to rules 1.10, 1.15.7, and 4.2: Existing rules apply to lobby backgrounds. Removed rule 1.19.1 which was previously prohibiting text in lobby backgrounds. Please take the time to read through these updated rules and familiarize yourself with them.”

While text is now permitted, creators should be mindful of its presentation. It should be legible and not obscure other important elements of the lobby background. Promotional text, calls to action, or pricing information remain prohibited in lobby backgrounds, as they are elsewhere in island metadata. The core principles of the Island Creator Rules remain in effect: content must be original, respectful, and adhere to Fortnite’s community guidelines.
Creators are still responsible for obtaining age ratings for their islands and disclosing relevant content accurately. All other rules related to content creation, promotion, monetization, and working with others remain unchanged.
