Williams F1 team is set to run a special livery to commemorate their 800th Grand Prix milestone at Budapest and Silverstone in the upcoming weeks. Moreover, the one-off livery at the British GP will behold the life and essence of team founder and former team principal Sir Frank Williams. He was a true racer at heart, with a burning will to win. After his death in December 2020, this is the first instance where the team will again run with Frank-dedicated livery.

Founded in 1977, the eponymous team went on to become the second most successful team in the history of F1. The only team that supersedes Williams is Ferrari, which is also the oldest running team on the grid. For a recent Formula 1 fan, Williams is merely a name they often see at the bottom of the table, however, the glory days of this exceptional team would put any great franchise to shame.

The team is gaining despite outdated departments: Williams Team Principal

Williams team went into the hands of new owners Dorilton Capitals in 2020 after an array of disappointing years and a lack of sponsorship. However, the team dearly holds and respects the legacy that Sir Frank and everyone involved through the years has built. Recently, the current team principal opened up about the coming 800th GP celebrations and the way forward for the team. He was both proud and pragmatic about what the future holds for the team.

“We are incredibly proud of our history and the legacy built over the years. Over our 46-year history, the team has achieved incredible results. We invite all our fans to join us in this celebration as we pay tribute to our iconic past and look towards a bright future,” said Vowles.

Moreover, he opened up about the progress team is making lately even after a dismal situation in certain departments. “Williams is about 20 years behind schedule in some areas. And I’m not surprised, because in all these years there has been a lack of investments to be able to update the structures, which are thus left out of date. We’ve made a major leap forward from last year to this part, it’s just not always seen or said, but I get it,” added the team boss.
