Verstappen grabs a complete clean sweep in Barcelona. A storming performance from Mercedes saw a double Podium as Hamilton bags 2nd and Russell 3rd

Spanish GP: Max Verstappen comfortably won the race to extend his lead in the World Driver’s Championship. It was a wonderful weekend for Mercedes who take both podium stops. Lewis Hamilton continues his charge to finish 2nd while teammate George Russell finished 3rd. A late charge from Perez saw him finish 4th ahead of Carlos Sainz. Charles Leclerc missed the points to finish 11th.

Meanwhile, Ferrari’s Carlos Sainz managed to secure a spot on the front row alongside Verstappen, giving some hope to the Italian racing team after a disastrous run by Charles Leclerc. The Ferrari driver, who clinched pole position at last year’s Spanish Grand Prix, struggled with the pace and got eliminated in Q1 after getting 19th place. McClaren’s Lando Norris enjoyed a great outing on Saturday and secured the third position.

However, the Spanish crowd’s hopes were dampened as their home favorite, Fernando Alonso, could only muster a ninth-place start due to damage sustained to the bottom of his Aston Martin after running through the gravel.

Verstappen’s teammate, Sergio Pérez, who has also tasted victory twice this season, faced a challenging qualifying session and will begin the race from 11th place on the grid.

The qualifying session had few incidents. Rain during the third practice session on Saturday left several wet patches on the track, causing a number of cars to spin which led to a red flag. Another incident happened at the end of Q2 when George Russell made contact with teammate Lewis Hamilton, who secured the fifth position, resulting in debris flying from one of their cars.
