Sebastian Vettel displays love for nature, launches biodiversity project at Suzuka

The initiative, which is called Buzzin' Corner, seeks to cultivate diverse habitats and promote biodiversity in general

Star Formula One racer Sebastian Vettel continued to demonstrate his commitment to the environment. Vettel on Wednesday launched his latest initiative, Buzzin’ Corner, at the Suzuka Grand Prix.

The circuit’s Turn 2, which Sebastian Vettel referred to as his “favourite”, is now adorned with yellow and black kerbs. The initiative seeks to cultivate diverse habitats and promote biodiversity in general.

The newly painted kerbing at Turn 2 of the Suzuka Grand Prix has been accompanied by the installation of 11 insect hotels. Vettel has assisted in designing and constructing them for bees and other insects.

Buzzin’ Corner may be debuting in Suzuka, but the project, which has declared itself to be a “race for biodiversity”, aims to create more habitats for insects on race tracks around the world.

Vettel has invited Formula 1 Team Principals and drivers to visit the Buzzin’ Corner on Thursday at 1600 local time. A special activation event is scheduled to take place.

Vettel’s words

“We all know one insect is very famous, and it’s the bee,” Vettel said in an Instagram video.

“The bee is yellow and black, and it’s the perfect ambassador for us around this project.

“The idea is to highlight the importance of biodiversity. It stands not just for the bee but for all the other insects.

“So, we sort of use the bee as our ambassador, and she will help us to hopefully stress this very powerful message back there.

“It is nice to be back in Suzuka and hopefully this is just the beginning of an initiative and projects around the world leading to more yellow and black kerbs at racetracks and more habitat and space for insects.”
