Red Bull & Max Verstappen Take Over Major McLaren-Held F1 Record at British GP

Failure to breach these milestones is not the only story of today's race. There have been quite a few records equaled and broken at the 2023 British GP.

The highly-exciting 2023 British GP is culminated with Max Verstappen taking the chequered flag ahead of the rest of the grid, thus repeating the story of this season so far. To the surprise of many, Lando Norris came home to finish the race in second after McLaren upgrades worked wonders for the young Brit. Meanwhile, Silverstone legend Sir Lewis Hamilton competed for the podium places making it a total British lockout at the top three (teams and drivers included).

Winning the British GP has been at the top of many F1 drivers’ bucket lists. Being one of the oldest circuits in F1, Silverstone is surely tenacious and challenging. However, an exceptional result here makes it up to the drivers with bragging rights and high esteem. As it stands, the current record for most wins here is held by Lewis Hamilton here, 8. A win today would have landed him the record for most wins at any F1 circuit ever. However, he will have to wait for it now.

Another record that Hamilton was chasing today was of most laps led in Silverstone. It is currently held by Jim Clark by a surplus of 23 laps. Nonetheless, failure to breach these milestones is not the only story of today’s race. There have been quite a few records equaled and broken at the 2023 British GP.

Max Verstappen and Red Bull conquer another record at British GP

This season has been the story of Max Verstappen’s dominance and Red Bull’s good fortunes. The Milton-Keynes team had a great run in their home GP with another win on the trout. After today’s race, Red Bull has extended its championship lead by an invincible 208 points over Mercedes with just 11 rounds of racing. Moreover, Max Verstappen now stands tall with a 99-point lead over Sergio Perez in the same car.

Today’s win was Red Bull’s 11th consecutive one this season. With this, the team has equaled McLaren’s earlier-held record for most consecutive wins as constructors since 1988. Most likely, it will get broken at the upcoming race in Hungary. Verstappen is eagerly chasing Vettel’s record of 9 consecutive wins as well, with six out of his total 9 wins coming back-to-back.

Furthermore, Aston Martin driver Fernando Alonso equaled Kimi Raikkonen’s record for most race starts at Silverstone, in 20. Additionally, Lewis Hamilton owing his podium finish became the first driver to cross 300 points in Silverstone.
