Miami GP: Formula 1: McLaren are having a season to forget in 2023 with just 14 points under the belt so far. The duo of Norris and Piastri are not able to extract any performance from the MCL60, for the simple reason that it doesn’t seem to exist. The men from Woking have had the most disastrous start to a season in over a decade with drivers going point-less in multiple races. More recently, both McLaren drivers faced a Q1 exit at Miami International Circuit owing to a draggy car. Follow Formula 1 Live Updates on InsideSport.IN.

Moreover, the weekend only got worse and both the two drivers had an equally substandard outing on Sunday. Lando Norris came home to see the chequered flag in 17th place while Piastri could only manage a penultimate finish, only ahead of Williams’ of Logan Sargeant. The current form of the Papaya team is worrisome not only to the pit wall but also the entire F1 juggernaut. Though two relentless and strong-headed drivers behind the wheel, the team is just not getting the machinery right.

More recently, team boss Andres Seidl opened up about the team’s performance, in a rather pragmatic yet disappointing tone.

McLaren performance at Miami GP a “reality check”: Andreas Seidl

The team needs some major steps in positive directions to compete more consistently for points. Right now, the bad days look more like a norm for the legendary team, arguably the biggest upset of the season. Recently, the team boss opened up on the developments that they are planning to bring forward soon into the season. In an interview reported with Motorsport, Seidl said that Miami GP was a reality for the team.

“We have received a reality check,” said the Papaya team boss. “At the moment the car just doesn’t work in those conditions and that gets annoying on these kinds of tracks.”

However, rusty weekends like these don’t have a real impact on the development of the car, remarked Seidl in the same interview. “It just helps focus on certain things in car development,” says Stella, who says development speed is “always 100 percent.”

“What happens in Imola is that we take a package that we put into production one or two months ago, depending on the lead time. So it’s not that you now identify a problem with the adjustment and can react between now and Imola,” added the German boss.
