Christian Horner’s Claim
Earlier in the season, Lewis Hamilton was negotiating a contract extension with Mercedes. Christian Horner claims that Lewis Hamilton reached out to him during this time. A team-up of Lewis Hamilton and Max Verstappen in Formula 1 is mouth-watering. But given the amount of bad blood between the teams, this prospect looked bleak at best.

Lewis Hamilton Responds
Speaking to Formula 1, Lewis Hamilton refuted these claims. He said that it was Christian Horner who reached out to him for a chat. He said, “I’ve not approached Christian; I haven’t spoken to Christian for years and no one from my team has. I have checked with everyone on my team [of representatives] and no one has spoken to them, but they have tried to reach out to us.”
Lewis Hamilton continued, “Basically, I picked up my old phone that I had just found at home that had my old number on it. I switched it on and obviously, hundreds of messages came through. And I realised there was one from Christian to get together and have a chat at the end of the season.”

My name “makes waves”
Lewis Hamilton was completely matter-of-fact when he was asked about his thoughts on Christian Horner discussing his Formula 1 contract.
He said, “Not really. If you really think about it, there are a lot of people here who really like to drop my name in conversations because they know it is going to make waves. And if you are a little bit lonely and are not getting much attention that is the perfect thing to do, just mention my name.”
