Formula 1: Lewis Hamilton has hinted at retirement after having a disappointing weekend in Saudi Arabia: Lewis Hamilton is facing an all-time low in his career after getting eliminated from the Q1 session and later finishing the Saudi Arabian Grand Prix 2022 in 10th position. Lewis had also lost out on the title last year to Max Verstappen after Max overtook him in the last lap of the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix. Some thought that Lewis might retire from the sport. Meanwhile, all is not well behind the scenes since the Brit has returned to Mercedes for the 2022 campaign. Follow Formula 1 Updates on InsideSport.IN.

When Lewis was asked about the Saudi Arabian Grand Prix weekend, he couldn’t hold on to his disappointment. Lewis said, “I’m looking forward to finally leaving.”

Hamilton has had a mixed start to the 2022 season. In the Bahrain Grand Prix, he somehow managed a P3 finish behind Ferrari duo Charles Leclerc and Carlos Sainz. However, in the Saudi Arabian Grand Prix, the 37-year-old driver managed to finish in the tenth spot.

It seems like his mood is getting worse day by day. He stepped into the 2022 season looking to beat the reigning champion Max Verstappen, but right now after the two races that look like a big task.

Mercedes engineer Pete Bonnington said on the team radio, “OK, Lewis that’s P10. Sorry about that. It’s a bit of a s*** result given all the hard work.” Hamilton didn’t stop there and bluntly asked Pete, “Is there even a point for that position?”

Hamilton’s mood was already not in a good shape after losing to Verstappen in a controversial manner last year. But, after all, which is happening with Hamilton right now, his mood seems to get worse.

Lewis Hamilton is somebody who is used to being at the top of his game and sport. For example Cristiano Ronaldo in football and Tom Brady in NFL. Being mediocre is just not in his DNA.

In 2020, he had made it clear that retirement from the sport isn’t too far away. The day he feels no longer capable of competing at the highest level, is going to be his last day.

Lewis added, “That thought of retirement often happens to me. It’s like a wave. It comes and goes. There have been many occasions in the last four or five years when I didn’t know if I still wanted to try. Sacrifice myself with training at the expense of personal life.”

“There are other things I like to do. So many things I would like to try. But on the other hand, I tell myself that I am so lucky to be doing this job. In a rather long period of time, the career in the car becomes only a small part. There is a lot of time to retire. It is a question of finding the balance.”

“I tell myself that if I am still hungry and I train like I was a boy, which I am doing. And if I still get great results and I’m still hungry. If I find myself slower, lacking strength to train, and unmotivated, then I’ll know it’s time to stop.”

Lewis Hamilton is reeling in the W13 that he is driving in the 2022 season. The car is lacking pace and is dropping pace in the straights. Plus, on top of that Mercedes still hasn’t found a solution to Porpoising.

It’s sooner or later that Lewis will hang up his boots and call it a day. Till then, we should cherish the greatness of a man who has dominated sports year after year.
