Formula 1: Christian Horner relaxed about the Constructors title: Red Bull’s team principal Christian Horner is calm about their team’s title prospects this year, despite losing a handful of points due to their retirements this season. From just three races, Max Verstappen has now retired in two of them due to fuel pump and fuel leaks issue. Horner feels they need to get on top of their issues quickly and there is still time in the season to conclude. Follow Formula 1 updates on Insidesport.IN.

Horner said, “We’re just about 10 percent of the way into the championship. So I think there’s still a huge amount to go. The encouraging thing is we’ve got the basis of a quick car. Ferrari was out of reach on Sunday.”

“Their window that they were in with their tyre, you could just see they weren’t experiencing the problems either through blistering that some of the cars were experiencing, or graining that we experienced. They were just in a happier place, which tends to happen when your balance is more settled.”

Max Verstappen retired from the P2 position in the Bahrain Grand Prix after suffering fuel pump issues. He then went on to win the Saudi Arabian Grand Prix and cut the deficit. But, he again retired from the P2 spot in the Australian Grand Prix after suffering a fuel leak. The Dutch driver has lost a handful of 36 points so far this season.

Sergio Perez also retired from the Bahrain Grand Prix after being P3 in that race. He claims that these losses will prove crucial at the business end of the season. Verstappen is sixth in the Drivers’ standings with 25 points to his name and Perez is fourth with 30 points.

Red Bull’s sister concern team AlphaTauri have also been suffering from engine reliability issues. Pierre Gasly and Yuki Tsunoda both recorded DNFs in Bahrain and Saudi Arabia. This has been a tricky debut for Red Bull powertrains after Honda left the sport last year itself.

It will be tricky for Red Bull to get on top of their problems as they are making an engine for the very first time. For a company that makes energy drinks, for them to make an engine and getting on top of it will take some time.

Horner claims that the team needs to solve their issues as soon as possible. But, he feels there is still time to do so. He added, “We’ve seen it across the two teams, a few issues. They’ve all been independent, none of them have been related.”

“We obviously need to understand those and address them quickly. Because even on a day that we weren’t as quick as Ferrari we were guaranteed second place. In the first few races, for Max, we’ve given up 36 points. And for the team, we’ve given up 50 points. When you look at that, both the Drivers’ and Constructors’ Championship would be a lot different.”

“But there’s still a huge percentage of the championship still to run but we need to get on top of these issues quickly.”

Red Bull are currently third in the Constructors standings with 55 points to their name. Their arch-rivals Mercedes have gone past them in second place with 65 points. Ferrari leads the table with a mammoth lead of 39 points after just three races.
