Formula 1 News: Red Bulls RB18 launch: Wednesday marked the launch of the Red Bulls RB18 car which they will be using in the upcoming 2022 Formula 1 season. The car has been designed under the changed rules but Red Bull tricked everyone by launching a fake car. But, they were still calling it RB18 throughout the event. The Red Bull Team Principal, Christian Horner confirmed that the car launched on Wednesday is not the final version. The car that will be on the track in the first race in Bahrain Grand Prix will be different from what we have seen today.

Red Bull has simply taken a mule car and have dressed it in the new Red Bull livery. The RB18 would be actually seen at the first pre-season testing at Barcelona and later on in Bahrain.

The car that Red Bull launched yesterday wasn’t even carbon fibre. Carbon fine is the standard material used to manufacture F1 cars but they used glass fibre and steel.

Even Mercedes and Ferrari won’t reveal specific details when they launch their cars. But both the teams will showcase their actual cars and not a fake one like the Red Bull. Till now, Haas are the only other teams who have revealed their actual car for the 2022 season.

Christian Horner said, “With the new regulations this year, the whole philosophy has changed. It means that every component is different from last year’s car. It is a blank sheet of paper for every team. By the time we get to the first race in Bahrain, the RB18 won’t look much like it does today. The evolution will be very fast as we go further in the season.”

Red Bull doesn’t want to reveal any details of their car to their rivals before the season opener in Bahrain. The car they showcased yesterday wasn’t even near the new set of aerodynamics regulations. Horner also highlighted the difficulty in designing the real car while pointing towards the fake one.

Horner added, “It’s a learning curve for everyone and also is a development contest between the first and last race. We think we have a good car for 2022. The RB18 is coming to life and to see it today is fantastic.”

“It has been a huge effort from the team and I just can’t wait to see it on the track. We are planning to build on 2021. We even have the number one on the car this year. The only challenge now is to keep it and defend the title with Max Verstappen. The performances in 2021 have given us a huge boost and we go in the 2022 season in great shape.”
