“And I think the silver [coming] back, we’ve had an incredible livery with the black in the past couple of years – but the silver back on track I think is going to look incredible,” said Russell.

Mercedes have been unchallenged in the turbo-hybrid era until last season. Since 2014, Mercedes have won 8 Constructor’s title and 7 world Championship titles ( Hamilton 6, Rosberg 1). F1 2021 saw Red Bull driver Max Verstappen snatching the 8th world championship title from the hands of Hamilton in the last lap of the last race of the season in the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix last December.

The team from England has a change in their driver lineup for 2022. Junior Mercedes driver George Russell who had a three-year stint at Williams will be partnering with Lewis Hamilton. Russell will take the spot of Valtteri Bottas who has moved to Alpha Romeo.

Speaking at the launch, Lewis Hamilton said, “It just takes you back to being a kid. I think it’s always exciting watching, I mean with this new era of car, we’ve never seen such a drastic change, right?”

“So it’s such a huge change in so many ways, that it’s just been really interesting seeing the designers and everyone coming together to find the best ways of creating a masterpiece.”

This new car will be allowed for filming with the drivers limited to not driving the car for more than 100 km at the Silverstone track. Following the filming and test tryouts, the car will travel to Barcelona where the first official pre-season testing of the cars will take place for all the teams for a span of 3 days.

“And we have no idea how it’s going to handle; we have driven laps in the simulator, but making sure that we make the right correlation, that’s why – I think George is out first today – I think I’ll be after him!” added Hamilton.

Following the testing at Barcelona, Mercedes will travel to Bahrain in March for the final pre-season testing before taking a part in the first grand prix of the F1 2022 season. The new F1 calendar year will kick start at the Shakir Grand Prix in Bahrain on the weekend of 18-20th March 2022.
