Russell has had a good run so far for the Silver Arrows team. He finished fourth in the Bahrain Grand Prix followed by a fifth-place finish in the Saudi Arabian Grand Prix. But, he didn’t have to wait for his podium finish in the Mercedes outfit.

The Brit driver finished third in the Australian Grand Prix and now sees himself second in the Drivers standings. Russell told Sky Sports, “Someone told me and I didn’t believe them. It’s pretty crazy to think, but this is a championship based on results and not necessarily on pace. We know if we want to keep that position, we needed to find more performance in the car. But it’s going to take a lot of time. But, for the time being, let’s keep capitalizing.”

Formula 1: George Russell finished third in the Australian Grand Prix and is now second in the Drivers standings.

“We’ve got to be proud about this because we’re sitting P2 in both championships. And this weekend we were the fifth-fastest team. We were slower than McLaren and Alpine, Ferrari and Red Bull, yet we’ve come away with P3 and P4, which is pretty mega.”

One of the major reasons that he is driving so well in his W13 challenger is because he drove a relatively difficult car in his time at Williams. Williams were a team who were fighting to stay in the sport and Russell spent three years with them.

Meanwhile, Mercedes finds itself with a major problem in the form of Porpoising. George even suggested that bringing back the ‘active suspension’ would help cure the problem.

So far Russell has impressed everybody and has even outpaced his teammate Hamilton. He has been more consistent than the reigning champion Max Verstappen himself. These are promising signs for the Silver Arrows team as they look to get on top of their problems.

The next race will take place in Italy. The Emilia-Romagna Grand Prix will start on 22nd April and the race is scheduled for 24th April.
