Formula 1: Mercedes entered the Formula 1 grid in 2010 as a full-fledged team but they began dominating the sport after a few years of warming up. The introduction of new regulations in 2014 marked a turning point for the team as they won a whopping eight titles in a row. The situation only got worse when Russell’s car caught fire due to a reliability issue, which was the first time Mercedes had experienced such an issue in years. Despite identifying that a cylinder had failed, the cause of the failure is still unknown, and there are now concerns about the team’s reliability.

Roberto Chinchero of Motorsport wrote that the power unit causing Russell’s retirement from the race would be replaced, but there are concerns that a third power unit may be needed, potentially resulting in a penalty similar to Charles Leclerc’s. Furthermore, there is speculation that this string of bad luck could lead to Hamilton leaving the team.

To conclude, Mercedes had a dominant run in Formula 1, but the 2022 regulations have presented new challenges for the team. The recent reliability issue with George Russell’s car has raised concerns about the team’s performance, and the potential need for a third power unit could result in further penalties.
