The FIA’s decision document reads: “Car 1 exceeded the pit lane speed limit which is set at 80 km/h for this event by 6.4 km/h.

The document also talks about Article 15 of the FIA International Sporting Code and Chapter 4 of the FIA Judicial and Disciplinary Rules. It states that the competitors have the right to challenge specific stewards’ rulings within the appropriate time frames.

The FIA handed the penalty just after the Red Bull driver topped the opening practice session. With a time of one-minute 18.790secs, the Dutchman was 0.503s faster than his team-mate Sergio Perez.

Returning to our Red Bull driver, he can exhale with satisfaction as no additional license points have been assessed. This indicates that he is still 10 points above the cutoff for a race-related prohibition. However, what concerns them at this moment is the gear shifting. The Dutchman’s complaint to engineers about gear shift problems, which he had previously experienced in Saudi Arabia this season.

Talking about Sunday’s race in Melbourne, Verstappen acknowledged that, in his opinion, Red Bull still has a lot of work to do. “I mean, to be honest, it was not even so much about the car, it was just very low grip out there. The tarmac seems to be really slippery, already last year, and it’s quite tough to switch on the tyres,” stated Verstappen.
