Nonetheless, Vettel said he intends to stay in F1 one year from now and has opened talks with Aston Martin about extending his agreement. “Obviously I’ve said that we’ll start to talk at some point and I’m talking to the team. I think there is a clear intention to keep going and we’ll see soon where we stand,” Vettel said.

Vettel joined Aston Martin from Ferrari on a two-year agreement that began in 2021. It means that his current agreement comes to an end towards the finish of the F1 2022 season. There were rumours that he can hang his boots after this season as he started this year’s campaign on a torrid note.

Meanwhile, he is among four title holders on the grid, having won four consecutive F1 championships with Red Bull from 2010 to 2013. But, since 2019 Vettel has not won a single race.

Formula 1: Sebastian Vettel’s last win in F1 came at the 2019 Singapore GP.

After missing the first two rounds of the F1 2022 season, Vettel sees himself down in the fourteenth in the drivers’ standings with just 15 points to his name. He has registered only one DNF this season and his best finish came at the Azerbaijan GP where he finished sixth overall.

In the midst of speculation about Daniel Ricciardo’s future at McLaren, which has been uncertain since the group’s CEO Zak Brown indicated systems to end his agreement recently, Vettel has been connected to a move to the papaya-donned team.

But, Ricciardo has clarified that he intends to respect the last season of his McLaren contract one year from now. Meanwhile, Vettel didn’t deny conversations with the group but played down the idea of moving to McLaren. “No. I know some people there but I think it’s just rumours,” Vettel concluded.
