The Formula 1 Austin GP created a lot of buzz this year because both Lewis Hamilton and Charles Leclerc were disqualified from the race. However, elsewhere, the stewards had missed multiple Turn 6 track limit violations by the drivers. Haas submitted a Request to the FIA to review the result of the Austin GP. And after some mulling, the FIA has agreed. The affected drivers are from Red Bull, Williams, and Aston Martin.
Is the Right to Review correct?
The FIA has a sporting code for Formula 1. This code allows the right to review in a situation where “a significant and relevant new element is discovered which was unavailable to the parties seeking the review at the time of the decision concerned”. However, there is a time limit of 14 days.
For the Austin GP, Haas submitted their request in the nick of time. They do have a lot of onboard footage which directly condemns quite a few drivers.

Teams Summoned by the FIA
The FIA has summoned the teams involved in this review for an official hearing. They have summoned the stewards of the Austin GP as well. Williams will suffer the most. These penalties will not just bring their points down, but also increase the points of all their rivals.
Meanwhile, Sergio Perez will drop from 4th to 10th at the Austin GP. This will bring Lewis Hamilton back into contention for P2 in the Drivers’ Championship.

A Promise by the FIA
After this revelation from the Formula 1 Austin GP, the FIA has promised better policing at turn 6.
They said, “In line with the stewards’ decisions (Document 59) in relation to an alleged rule breach on the inside of the corner, which stated that ‘the evidence available is insufficient to accurately and consistently infer infringements’, the FIA will update the monitoring infrastructure to ensure better coverage so that possible infringements can be reliably detected during the race in the future.”
