The Las Vegas GP Opening Ceremony divided the opinions of the Formula 1 fans. While a section of fans liked the pomp around it, the older fans just wanted to see the drivers. With Liberty Media planning to keep Las Vegas around, this difference in opinion is bound to grow. The opening ceremony divided the drivers’ opinions as well. While Max Verstappen bluntly criticized the event, Fernando Alonso had some nice comments, as reported by PlanetF1.

“Deserves a little bit different…”

Fernando Alonso was a lot more accepting than Max Verstappen when it came to the Las Vegas GP opening ceremony. He understood the importance of the event for Formula 1 and recognized the massive $500 million investment.

Fernando Alonso was very practical and said that events like the Las Vegas GP do deserve a little different treatment and a bit more of a show. He said, “I have to say that places like this one and with the investment that has been done on the place that we are racing, it deserves a little bit different treatment and a little bit extra show of what we did today or what the weekend is going to be.”

Despite disagreeing with Max Verstappen, Fernando Alonso had a request for Formula 1 after the Las Vegas GP Opening Ceremony.

A Request for Formula 1

While accepting the Las Vegas GP Opening Ceremony, Fernando Alonso had a request for Formula 1. As we all know, Formula 1 drivers do a lot more than just race during a race weekend.

The entire Thursday (Wednesday for the Las Vegas GP) is reserved for the various media duties of the drivers. Over the weekend, they have even more media commitments after each session of the racing weekend. Add in the marketing commitments for their sponsors, and it’s a hectic schedule.

After the Las Vegas GP opening ceremony, Fernando Alonso wants Formula 1 to reduce some of their other commitments. This would help them get time for these elaborate events.

He said, “I’m okay to do an extra for these type of events, but maybe it could be balanced somehow and reduced maybe our schedule somewhere else.”
