F1 Spanish GP: Will Lewis Hamilton surpass Michael Schumacher at Barcelona? – Lewis Hamilton is currently tied with F1 legend Michael Schumacher (6) for the most number of wins at Barcelona. Whereas, Ferrari as a constructor has the most number of wins (12) at Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya and enjoys a healthy lead over Mercedes. Hamilton, who has lots of records to his name in the sport is eyeing yet another record at Barcelona. He is tied with F1 legend Michael Schumacher for the most number of wins (6) at Barcelona.

The Brit has won the last five consecutive races from 2017 to 2021 at the Circuit de Barcelona- Catalunya. His first win came in the year 2014, one year after joining the Silver Arrows. Meanwhile, Schumacher won four consecutive races from 2001 to 2004.

The other two race wins for Schumacher at the Spanish Grand Prix came in 1995 and 1996. In 1995, Schumacher drove for Benetton and 96’ saw him join the Prancing Horse team (Ferrari).

But, Hamilton has fewer chances of winning this year as Mercedes have been reeling behind in terms of pace. Their W13 challenger has been hit by Porpoising which has halted their up-gradation process. They are unable to match the pace of Ferrari and Red Bull.

On the other hand, Ferrari as a constructor has the most number of wins (12) in Barcelona. Meanwhile, Mercedes sees itself in second place with (9) race wins in Spain.

F1 Spanish GP: Ferrari as a Constructor enjoys 12 wins in the Spanish Grand Prix.
  • Ferrari won in these respective years – 1954, 1974, 1981, 1990, 1996, 2001, 2002, 2003, 2004, 2007, 2008, and 2013.
  • Mercedes won in these respective years – 1934, 1935, 2014, 2015, 2017, 2018, 2019, 2020, and 2021.

Ferrari are the second favourite of winning the Spanish GP this year as they are up against the likes of Red Bull. The Austrian side has a little advantage in terms of pace in the straight line over the Scuderia. Verstappen would be eyeing to win the round sixth of the 2022 season and take the first place in the Drivers’ standings from Charles Leclerc, who enjoys a 19 points lead over the Dutch.
