The V8 and V12 engine sounds that might come across as blaring to a normal person were music to the ears of Motorsports fans. The eardrum-shattering engine sounds have been the most fascinating part of Formula 1 for decades. Fans even today relive those days through older race videos and archives. Over the last decade, a lot has changed in F1, including cars, regulations, weekend themes, and also, the epic engine sound. However, the F1 boss recently dropped delightful news for the fans.
Since 2014, F1 changed to a more sustainable sport, with a major overhaul in rules kicking off the turbo-hybrid era. The journey that started back then marked a significant shift to the 1600cc V6 engines. The 1.6 liters turbocharged engines are set to be retained in 2026 as well, the year when the next set of regulations with come in.
Last year, FIA’s World Motor Sports Council approved sustainable engine regulations. This is done in an attempt to standardize various parts and reduce fuel consumption going forward with the hybrid engine. The current powertrain is the least charismatic this sport has ever seen, even after being the quickest of all. Thus, when the talks of regulations came into being, fans were expecting an even quieter engine going forward.

Upcoming Engines will be louder: F1 CEO Domenicali
In what appears to be a piece of welcome news for all the F1 fans, Stefano Domenicali recently talked about the future engine and gave rather joyful news. The Italian boss said with conviction that though the sport is moving towards more sustainable powertrains, the engine sounds will increase in 2026.
When asked if F1 would be noiseless in the future, he said, “No. Very clearly, no. Of course, we need to be hybrid, we’re [going to be] hybrid for the future but the intention is to make sure in the new regulation, the engine sound will be higher.”
“It’s part of our emotion, it’s really what our fans want to hear and that’s our duty for us to commit to that,” added the F1 boss.
Moreover, he also assured the readers that F1 is not going electric anytime soon. Additionally, he told that sustainable fuel with hybrid engines will be the way forward for many upcoming years.
