Formula 1 still hasn’t recovered from the titanic battle between Red Bull and Mercedes in 2021. The fan bases are still at war with each other all the time. However, the new Ground Effect era hasn’t been the same for both teams. Christian Horner has led Red Bull to back-to-back double championships. Meanwhile, Lewis Hamilton has struggled to regularly challenge for wins in his Mercedes. Christian Horner has now stirred the Formula 1 rumour pot by saying that Lewis Hamilton reached out to him for a seat at Red Bull for 2024, as reported by Crash.

The Contract Renewal

Mercedes and Lewis Hamilton were due for a contract renewal at the end of 2023. They ended up doing just that. However, before the confirmation dropped, there were multiple rumours of the star driver going to Ferrari. Christian Horner confirmed those rumours as well.

Christian Horner said, “He met John Elkann, too. I think there were serious talks. It was around Monaco (in May). There were definitely conversations, perhaps with Vasseur, too. But certainly with Elkann.”

A Seat at Red Bull

However, the more shocking revelation came just before the Ferrari revelation. Christian Horner said that Lewis Hamilton reached out to him for a Red Bull seat in 2024. This seems extremely wild considering the amount of bad blood Red Bull and Mercedes have in Formula 1. Just last week, Toto Wolff alluded to Abu Dhabi 2021 when asked about the close fight between Mercedes and Ferrari.

Christian Horner said, “We have had several conversations over the years about Lewis joining. They have reached out a few times. Most recently, earlier in the year, there was an inquiry about whether there would be any interest.”

“’But I can’t see Max and Lewis working out together. The dynamic wouldn’t be right. We are 100 percent happy with what we have.”

Do you think Lewis Hamilton really wanted to leave Mercedes that badly? Or is Christian Horner playing his mind games once again? We will have to wait till the 7-time World Champion answers.
