Alpha Tauri F1 Boss RULES OUT “Toro Rosso” possibility ahead of sweeping changes

Faenza outfit is not planning to return to its earlier identity. Instead, they look to earn more out of this transaction.

Scuderia Alpha Tauri F1 team is all set to undergo some sweeping changes in terms of name and top-tier management. The Red Bull sister outfit has been operating under the clothing brand title since 2020, and the deal is concluding later this year. The obvious and anticipated move would have been to rename it to its earlier branding of Toro Rosso, as it had existed between 2006-19. However, the team principal Franz Tost has recently ruled out the above possibility.

Back in 2006, Red Bull bought the Minardi team and rebranded it to the erstwhile Toro Rosso. The Italian outfit has served various purposes for Red Bull in the past, the fruits of which they are still reaping. All four drivers across the two teams, sign the same Red Bull contract. This helps the senior team maintain mobility across drivers based on their performances. We saw this over the years with the promotion of Vettel, Verstappen, Gasly, and Albon.

However, over the last stint of the team as Alpha Tauri, they have been working more independently. Now as the deal is coming to an end, a return to closer days of Red Bull-Alpha Tauri is expected. Even the team advisor Helmut Marko suggested the same on this issue lately. Nonetheless, the Faenza outfit is not planning to return to its earlier identity. Instead, they look to earn more out of this transaction by inviting a title sponsor.

There is a big interest in Scuderia Alpha Tauri: Franz Tost

The team will undergo some monumental changes later this season. Team Principal Tost is also contractually bound to part ways with the team later this year. As it seems now, he will be making room for Laurent Mekies. This is assuming the current stand-off with Ferrari over his future is resolved. Moreover, as the season has been going on so far, even the driver lineup might see some changes during this timeline.

Though Yuki Tsunoda finds himself in a comfortable spot after pulling off some spectacular performances, Nyck De Vries is under the lens for his mishaps. Recently, Tost discussed the upcoming rebranding challenge ahead of the team, and he made some key revelations regarding the same. On being asked if the team will return to its original name Toro Rosso, he said, “I don’t think so. I think there’s another possibility to get more money out of it.”

“The title sponsor is a very attractive one, and we will see then what the negotiations will bring in the next months. But currently, we are talking to different companies. Fortunately, there is a big interest in Scuderia AlphaTauri. But nothing is confirmed, nothing is signed so far,” added the Austrian
