Max Verstappen, who races with number 33 choose to use number 1 for the upcoming 2022 F1 season. It is a perk that comes with winning the Formula 1 title and the driver can choose to avail of it or not.

It was Sebastian Vettel who last used number 1 in the 2014 season. It was that year when the newly introduced driver numbers came in.

Since then no other driver has changed their numbers. Lewis Hamilton always stuck with his 44 number even after winning six titles. Meanwhile, Nico Rosberg retired from motorsport just after two days after winning the 2016 title.
It was the first time that Verstappen chose to race with number 1 in 2022. It appeared on his car for the first time as he took part in a promotional excursion for Red Bull. It took place at the 2022 GP Ice Race at Austria’s Zell am See.

Max Verstappen recently drove a modified 2008 RB8 with studded tyres. He had fun drifting around on the ice and snow as a part of the promotional event. When he got out of the car, he had a big smile on his face.
Max enjoyed driving with number 1 on his car for the first time. He realized the moment had happened at the end of the day.

Max Verstappen said, “I didn’t even realize the number was on the car. How many times do you get the opportunity to swap your number?”
He further added, “Number 1 is the best number for me as it was very straightforward to pick the number 1. I hope that number 33 doesn’t come back next year.”
