At the Silverstone Grand Prix, Max Verstappen endured a 51G impact with the barriers and was later on taken to the hospital for checks. But at Monza, it was the Halo that was credited for saving the life of Lewis Hamilton as Verstappen’s Red Bull landed on top of Hamilton’s Mercedes. It was a very close call in the title race and due to the crash, both of the drivers did not finish the race.

Mika Hakkinen himself spent around two months in the hospital after a horrendous crash at the 1995 Australian Grand Prix in Adelaide. He feels that both the drivers in the form of Verstappen and Hamilton took their battle too far on some occasions.

Hakkinen said, “Is it my style to do things like those two drivers did? not really, it is not at all my style because I had a very bad accident.”

Hakkinen further added, “I had spent a lot of time in the hospital and I know the pain whenever things go wrong. Both of these drivers have no clue that is why they take risks. Both of them rely heavily on the safety of the car and safety of the track.”

Formula 1 is entering a new era in the 2022 season as new technical regulations come into play. Mika Hakkinen suggests that the competitiveness of the Mercedes car will determine whether Lewis Hamilton stays in Formula 1 or leaves.

Hakkinen added, “It is going to be a brand new machine and the designers might not find an optimum machine. If this happens to Lewis then it will be very hard for him to accept this fact.”

Furthermore, he asserted, “If you have been at the top of the mountain and suddenly you slip from the top because you don’t have the best car. It is going to be very emotional for him to control. A lot of question marks are raised about whether Hamilton is coming back or not, but for now, let’s hope he is.”
