This meant that Max Verstappen pitted and changed his tyres to new soft tyres. Lewis Hamilton was sitting duck on his hard tyres and he had pitted in the 14th lap. It was a last-lap shootout in which the Dutchman overtook Hamilton and clinched his first-ever Formula 1 World title.
Michael Masi’s decision caused a huge backlash as it changed the outcome of the world title. Lewis Hamilton is tied with Michael Schumacher as both the drivers have seven Formula 1 titles to their name.
