Audi had confirmed in August about entering the Formula 1 world in four years’ time. They wanted to be a part of it as a power unit supplier from 2026 and had been previously linked with a partnership with McLaren. Fellow Volkswagen brand Porsche, meanwhile, saw a deal fall through with Red Bull but still retain an F1 interest.

Duesmann has set it very straight forward that they are not entering the competition only to participate. “ Audi’s ultimate goal is to become a leading F1 team by their third season on the grid “, the CEO stated.

Ahead of this, Audi has already purchased a stake in Sauber Motorsport. Sauber, who first debuted in Formula 1 in 1993, partnered with Alfa Romeo in 2018 but have still been operating at a smaller budget than nearly all of their rivals, and have been towards the back of the grid since.

Despite Audi’s parent company, the Volkswagen Group, expressing interest in the possibility of a German driver in the Team. With Duesmann stating his words clear to the media, it seems like Mick Schumacher’s future in F1 remains uncertain. But that won’t stop the german racer from being a part of F1 as Mercedes have Mick Schumacher as their reserve driver for the 2023 season.
