Why is Mauricio Lara stripped off his world title ahead of Lara vs Wood 2?
Mauricio Lara is the current WBA featherweight champion. However, during the recent weigh-ins, the federation imposed a strict weight for both fighters to compete for the featherweight title. Unfortunately, Mauricio Lara couldn’t make his weight into the given scale range and stood at the weighing at 129.5 lbs. According to the reports, the boxing federation disclosed Lara will not be able to defend the title under the imposed weight due to health risks.
Meanwhile, Leigh Wood has managed to pin the scale at 125.9 lbs and he is ready to get another chance for the title. Recently, Wood’s coach Ben Davison questioned whether the fight would continue on their scheduled day or not. Undoubtedly, the fight will go and the British native is eligible to fight for the featherweight title. In case if Wood wins the bout he will become a 2-time world champion.
However, things will be different for Lara if he wins the fight. It is speculated Lara would be winning the match within the first 9 rounds with a TKO or stoppage. The Mexican fighter won’t be awarded the title due to missed weight but he can still get a chance for the title once again.
