For Vinicius in La Liga, this event is merely the most recent of many. The Brazil international faced racial taunts before, during, and after the Madrid derby in September, last month, and during the encounter against Real Valladolid in December. Following the event involving Valladolid, La Liga announced in January that it had “increased efforts to eradicate racism” by accusing people in Valladolid Magistrates’ Courts. Nacho Fernandez’s own goal gave Mallorca the victory in the game on Sunday.

Spain’s top division said in a statement on Tuesday: “LaLiga has filed a complaint with the Courts of Instruction in Palma de Mallorca for the racist insults against Vinicius Jr. that took place in the match between RCD Mallorca and Real Madrid.
“Once the images and audios captured from a place close to the grandstand of the only end of the Son Moix stadium occupied by the public have been analysed, LaLiga has transferred all the information gathered along with its complaint, both to the Courts of Instruction in Palma de Mallorca and to RCD Mallorca so that it can take part in the case.

“This is the sixth complaint filed by LaLiga for racist insults or chants against Vinicius Jr. However, three of them were filed by the prosecutors for hate crimes in Barcelona, Mallorca and Madrid, respectively.
“Two other complaints are currently being processed before the Courts of Instruction No. 4 in Valladolid and No. 28 in Madrid.
“We remind you that, in order to speed up the identification of any person or group of people who manifest racist behaviour in any stadium or outside of it, LaLiga has set up the email address StopRacismo@laliga.es.”
Prior to Real Madrid’s visit, Mallorca was warned that Vinicius Jr. would experience abuse. Last Monday, Chief Executive Alfonso Diaz issued an ineffectual call for fans to “show respect.” Carlo Ancelotti, manager of Real Madrid, has lashed out at the abuse his player has endured by expressing his opinion that racism exists in Spanish sport.
As of Tuesday, Ancelotti stated. “It is a problem of Spanish football and I am part of Spanish football and it is a problem that we have to solve. Vinicius is the victim of something I don’t understand.”
The next time Real Madrid plays is on Wednesday when they take on Al Ahly in the Club World Cup semifinal.
