UEFA suspends AS Roma boss Jose Mourinho for FOUR matches

AS Roma's manager, Jose Mourinho, receives a four-game suspension from UEFA for his foul-mouthed outburst towards referee Anthony Taylor in the Europa League final against Sevilla.

Jose Mourinho Ban: Jose Mourinho, the manager of AS Roma, has been given a four-game suspension by UEFA for his expletive-laced tirade on referee Anthony Taylor. During the UEFA Europa League final against Sevilla, which his team lost on penalties, Mourinho had criticised the referee.

UEFA said in their statement: “To suspend AS Roma head coach, Mr. José Mourinho, for the next four (4) UEFA club competition matches in which he would otherwise participate, for directing abusive language at a match official.”

In the Europa League championship game, Roma was defeated by Sevilla on penalties, and Mourinho was furious afterwards. He was seen waiting in the parking lot for referee Anthony Taylor while calling him a “disgrace.”

Additionally, he hinted at referee prejudice by saying the English official “appeared Spanish” during the championship game. At the airport, where Taylor and his family were trying to board a flight, Roma supporters also jeered at them.

UEFA has decided to suspend Mourinho from all European competition for a period of four games. Mourinho will only oversee two group-stage games for Roma, who finished sixth in Serie A last year and have qualified for the Europa League.

Roma as a club has also been penalised. They are not allowed to sell tickets to away supporters for their next European match because of the “lighting of fireworks, throwing of objects, acts of damage, and crowd disturbances.”

They were also instructed to get in touch with the Hungarian FA for the compensation of any losses brought on by fans, and they were fined €5,000 for the team’s improper behaviour. Roma are getting ready for the upcoming season, and on July 26 they will face Mourinho’s old team, Tottenham.
