UEFA Awards 2023: Erling Haaland named Player of the Year, Check Out winners list

UEFA Champions League Draw: UEFA Awards 2023: It is raining awards for Erling Haaland after a dreamy debut season with Manchester City. After winning the Player of the Year award in PFA Awards 2023, the Norwegian striker has bagged Player of the Year award in UEFA Awards 2023.

Notably, Haaland had a sensational debut campaign in England where he powered Manchester City to their first ever Champions League title and treble.

The 23-year-old was ruthless in front of goal, scoring 52 goals in 53 games across all competitions as Pep Guardiola’s team achieved a remarkable treble of Premier League, FA Cup and UEFA Champions League. Haaland finished as top scorer in both competitions, hitting 12 in Europe and 36 in the Premier League, the latter a new record.

Meanwhile, Manchester City’s manager Pep Guardiola won UEFA Men’s Coach of the Year award after leading the English side to a historic treble.

Under Guardiola, City have won 13 major trophies, including five titles in the last six Premier League campaigns. Most recently, they claimed the UEFA Super Cup for the first time on 16 August, making the Spaniard the first coach to win the trophy with three different clubs.

Aitana Bonmatí wins UEFA Women’s Player of the Year

Barcelona’s star midfielder Aitana Bonmatí was named UEFA Women’s Player of the Year in UEFA Awards 2023.

The 25-year-old Barcelona and Spain midfielder finished ahead of Sam Kerr and Olga Carmona in the voting after a season in which her teams won the UEFA Women’s Champions League and FIFA Women’s World Cup, Bonmatí named player of the tournament in both.

Bonmatí registered a competition-high 13 goal contributions in the Women’s Champions League (five goals and eight assists) as the Blaugrana reclaimed the title.

Bonmatí was also Spain’s fulcrum at the World Cup in Australia and New Zealand. Her double in the round of 16 against Switzerland inspired Spain’s first-ever major senior knockout win, and she went on to be named Player of the Tournament as they claimed their maiden senior title.
