Messi has been suspended by the club, while Neymar is sidelined, so Mbappe, who was formerly teamed up up front with fellow superstars Messi and Neymar, is now on his own. After Xavier Chavalerin scored a headed goal in the 83rd minute, Troyes appeared to have a chance to make a comeback, but Fabian Ruiz’s reaction three minutes later put those hopes to rest.
With the loss, Troyes’ relegation to Ligue 2 was all but guaranteed. The number of clubs in the French premier division will decrease from 20 to 18 for the upcoming season, meaning four teams will be relegated and just two will be promoted.
