Tottenham vs Leicester City cancelled due to waterlogged pitch in Thailand

Tottenham will be in action for club friendly fixture in Thailand against recently relegated Leicester City.

Tottenham vs Leicester City: TTottenham’s pre-season match against Leicester at Thailand’s Rajamangala National Stadium on Sunday has been cancelled. It was due to inclement weather. Spurs were scheduled to play their second summer friendly after losing 3-2 to West Ham. Previously, Leicester had defeated Northampton Town and OH Leuven.

“Tonight’s friendly against Leicester City has been cancelled due to a waterlogged pitch and adverse weather conditions. The event organisers, based on a recommendation from the match officials, deemed the pitch at the Rajamangala National Stadium unplayable and unsafe following heavy rainfall in Bangkok,” Spurs’ club statement read.

It is now raining in Thailand, and a massive rainfall has left the playing surface in disarray. The pitch markings were even washed away. With the rain not stopping, the decision was made to cancel the game due to player safety concerns.

The submerged pitch at Thailand’s national stadium was caused by heavy rain. Before the kick-off time was moved back, starting XIs were announced and warm-ups were held. The fixture was then declared completely cancelled.

Tottenham’s next pre-season match is slated on July 26 in Kallang, Singapore, against Lion City Sailors. Ange Postecoglou’s side will then return home to face Shakhtar Donetsk in north London before meeting Barcelona in the Joan Gamper Trophy.
