Liverpool are aiming for better results in the upcoming season with a renewed team. They have started preparing for that with a 4-2 win in their first pre-season game against Karlsruher. As Greuther Furth try to get back to Germany’s top flight in the upcoming season, they have started their preparation with a win, a draw, and a defeat in the pre-season friendlies.

Greuther Furth became the national champion three times which dates back to the early 20th century. However, since the advent of the current Bundesliga, they have suffered in the national league. They earned promotion to the Bundesliga only two times prior and the latest was in the 2021-22 season. However, they suffered greatly in Germany’s top-flight league that season as they could only accumulate 18 points throughout the season. They ended the season at the bottom of the league and were relegated again.
Following their relegation, they failed to make their mark in the 2. Bundesliga. They ended the season in 12th position in the league table. Before they start their upcoming season on July 30th, they are in preparation. They have already played 3 friendly matches. They won 5-2 against Ansbach, drew 4-4 against Gornik Zabzre, and lost 3-2 against FC Zurich. However, their next and last friendly match will prove to be much tougher than their last three as they take on the Premier League giants.
Liverpool are looking to leave behind their last season’s woes. They started by rebuilding the team with several departures and arrivals in this transfer window. Before they begin their Premier League campaign against Chelsea on the road, they started their pre-season tour in Germany. Their first friendly was against another second-division club Karlsruher. Coach Jurgen Klopp lined up a starting XI that featured both experience and youth. The coach left out captain Jordan Henderson who’s finalising his deal with the Saudi club Al Ettifaq.
A similar situation is going on for another key midfielder Fabinho. On the other hand, the coach gave new arrivals Alexis Mac Allister and Dominik Szoboszlai the chance to make their non-competitive debut. Darwin Nunez and Cody Gakpo scored two goals in the first 70 minutes of the match, but Karlsruher replied both times. Diogo Jota came to the rescue as he scored a brace in the injury time at the 90+2nd and 3rd minutes. They will look for an easier win against Greuther Furth before they fly out to Southeast Asia for the next friendlies.

- Following their disappointing performance last season, Afimico Pululu left for the top-flight Polish club Jagiellonia Białystok and Tobias Raschl left for Greuther Furth’s 2. Bundesliga rivals Kaiserslautern. On the other hand, Dennis Srbeny has arrived from another 2. Bundesliga club SC Paderborn and Internazionale midfielder Hakan Calhanoglu’s cousin, Kerim Calhanoglu from FC Schalke 04.
- Both Calhanoglu and Srbeny featured in their last match, the defeat against FC Zurich. The former Norwich City player Srbeny could start again in this match. Midfielder Branimir Hrgota was the highest goalscorer for the side last season with 11 goals in the league. His stats are followed by the USA international Julian Green who scored 7 goals.
