Cristiano Ronaldo’s sister has reacted angrily to her brother’s arch-rival Lionel Messi winning a record eighth Ballon d’Or prize. With this win, many believe the discussion over the ‘GOAT’ has ended. It seems as though the Cristiano Ronaldo family is having quite a hard time digesting this fact. Even Ronaldo was found commenting on a video mocking Messi’s 8th Ballon d’Or win.

On Monday night, Messi was named the best player in the world for the eighth time, closing up an amazing year for the Argentine striker. Lionel Messi’s World Cup victory in Qatar in December was the pinnacle of his career. It was also the foundation for his record-breaking Ballon d’Or title. With the win, Messi now has three more Ballon d’Or wins than his adversary Cristiano Ronaldo, with whom he has shared the award for almost a decade.
For years, fans have argued about who the best player of their generation – and, indeed, in the history of the game – is. Many pointing towards the Ballon d’Or tally as evidence the debate is over.
However, Katia Aveiro, Cristiano Ronaldo’s sister, feels Messi has been “given” his Ballon d’Or medals. It also feels that her opinion is that Messi isn’t really worthy of them. Following the event on Monday, a Ronaldo fan page on Instagram shared a picture of the forward—who is currently playing for Al-Nassr—holding his five golden ball trophies.
The post’s caption said, “Deserved, not given.” This is obviously a jab at Lionel Messi. Aveiro indicated her agreement with the attitude. She ended up liking the post and leaving a string of clapping emojis in the comments section too.
Katia has always had something to say when Lionel Messi wins something over her brother. This is not the first time something of this sort has been said or done by the Ronaldo family. Even Ronaldo is clearly not happy with Messi’s win.
CR7 reacts to Messi’s 8th Ballon d’Or win
Fans have blasted Cristiano Ronaldo after his social media post following Lionel Messi’s Ballon d’Or triumph last night. Messi won a record eighth Ballon d’Or Friday evening in Paris. While Ronaldo was not nominated for the first time in 20 years.
Over the years, the pair have had a long-standing rivalry as they competed for the title of best player in the world. Messi’s eighth Ballon d’Or victory now puts him three trophies ahead of Cristiano Ronaldo’s five, and many believe the discussion is over.
Some supporters believe the Portuguese superstar is hurting himself by falling further behind his competitor. Tomás Roncero, a Spanish journalist, posted a video after the ceremony in Paris.

Tomas said, ‘Lionel Messi went to retire in Miami, even though he already looked like he was retired at PSG preparing for the World Cup. He won the World Cup, yes, good, but with six penalties… The World Cup was ten months ago, it’s November. Messi has eight Ballon d’Ors, he should have had five. He has [Andres] Iniesta/Xavi’s Ballon d’Or, [Robert] Lewandowski’s who won six trophies in one season and [Erling] Haaland’s who was the top scorer.’
Cristiano Ronaldo then commented on the scathing video on Instagram leaving four laughing emoji’s underneath the post. It is not yet known what CR7 was intending to do and what he meant. But it seems clear that he is salty about Messi winning his 8th Ballon d’Or.
Taking to social media one fan wrote, ‘Actually can’t believe how embarrassing this behaviour is, how has he not just accepted the debate is done.’ While another added, ‘How shameless can this guy be?’ A third posted, ‘Ronaldo is so childish.’
