Los Blancos will look to avoid another defeat after their shambolic result against Atletico Madrid last weekend.

Girona came into the tie as the unbeaten 2nd placed team in the La Liga table. Real Madrid were a point behind Girona. A win for either team would have ensured an upward movement and the Los Blancos seized the opportunity. Early goal from Joselu swayed the momentum in Real Madrid’s favour and Girona never recovered from the setback.

Two golden opportunity came Girona’s way as soon as the match kicked off. Girona had two open headers inside the Real Madrid box inside the first five minutes, but both were off-target.

Real Madrid turned the tie in the 16th minute when Bellingham provided a brilliant assist to Joselu who arrived at the box behind the defender to guide the ball towards the net. The Girona goalkeeper got his hands to it, but they weren’t firm enough to stop the ball from crawling into the goal.

The Los Blancos doubled their lead just five minutes later when an unmarked Tchouameni nodded the ball home from a corner.

Real Madrid had their chances from then onwards but weren’t able to convert them till the 71st minute. A scuffed ball came to Jude Bellingham who volleyed it. Although he didn’t connect well with the volley, it was enough for creep into the net.

The win pushed Real Madrid to the top of La Liga table with 21 points from 8 matches. Girona were pegged back to the 3rd place of La Liga table with 19 points from 8 matches. Barcelona remain sandwiched between then with 20 points.
