Barcelona has been having a troubled week prior to the El Clasico. Their UEFA Champions League campaign is hanging by a thread and a consecutive Europa League relegation is very much on the table.
However, a boost of morale came to the squad with the return of the Frenchman Jules Kounde. Barcelona’s defense had been atrocious against Inter Milan in the midweek Champions League match that ended in a 3-all score, endangering Barcelona’s hope for a Champions League knockout place.

Kounde was expected to be sidelined for almost a month but the 23-year-old has made a speedy recovery and came back into the squad before the El Clasico. Juan Laporta had already hinted that the French man will be in action against Real Madrid. Xavi Hernandez, however, made things official at the pre-match press conference.

Xavi will be looking to repeat his last outing to Santiago Bernabeu this Sunday. The Spanish coach has had success against Real Madrid in the recent Clasicos. However, the Barca team was looking dismal against Inter as well as their La Liga opponent Celta Vigo.
Ronald Araujo has been Xavi’s go-to right back in the previous clasicos to stop the pacey Vinicious Jr. Araujo’s injury this season all but confirms Jules Kounde’s inclusion in the starting lineup.
A win against Real Madrid at this stage will give Barcelona much-needed breathing space at the top of the table. However, defeating the galacticos will not be an easy task as the reigning champions are yet to be defeated in the league this season.
