PSG New Manager: Newly announced Paris Saint-Germain manager Christophe Galtier hopes to keep Neymar in Ligue 1, says “I want him to stay with us”

On Neymar’s future

During his unveiling, Galtier was asked what his vision is for Neymar in the squad, and he made no secret of his desire to keep the 30-year-old around.

“What coach wouldn’t like to have Neymar in his squad?” Galtier said. “He’s a world class player. “Sure, you need balance, but I have a very clear idea of how I want to use him. I hope that he will stay with us.”

On Kylian Mbappe’s contract extension

Galtier also admitted his excitement towards working with Kylian Mbappe, who signed a new contract with PSG earlier this month, but insisted any success the club enjoys will be a team effort, rather than due to any superstar forwards.

“As a French coach, I was very happy that Kylian stayed,” Galtier said. “He is one of the best players in the world.

“I know what he expects from his team. We know his strengths and the importance he has. If these great individuals are happy to work as a collective, PSG will have a great season. I hope it will be as decisive as last season.”

On taking the job

“Luis Campos’ presence at PSG was decisive, and then my exchanges with the president which made me accept the job as manager, with a lot of humility but with great determination.”

On squad management

“I’m going to speak with all the players. Managing such a squad is a privilege.

“We must have a common project, with no compromise. I’m not going to revolutionise the changing room, I know I’ll have everyone’s support. Once a player is not in the project, they will be set aside.”

On transfers

“I have spoken a lot with Luis Campos to convince players to join us. I have total confidence in the process.”

On how his PSG team will play

“I want to see intensity, rhythm, and the players winning the ball back quickly high up the pitch. I haven’t met the players yet but I’ve spoken with the management about what I want to do.

“A three-man defence has been spoken about a lot. I’m lucky to have incredible wing players but also those at the heart of play. But there is a tendency towards a three-man defence.”
