There were also reports last night that the other 19 clubs have demanded a meeting to ask the Premier League why the Newcastle takeover was signed off.
Newcastle’s spending power under their new owners could make it harder for rival clubs to cling onto their place at the top table, Newcastle is now the richest football club in the world, worth an estimated £320billion. That’s £100billion more than the next wealthiest, Paris Saint-Germain and over ten times more than third on the list and the now the dethroned leaders of English football’s money game, Manchester City.

At this moment Liverpool, Arsenal and Spurs look to be the most obvious losers from Newcastle’s takeover, Jurgen Klopp has frequently defended Fenway Sports Group from accusations that they are allowing the club to fall behind domestic rivals in the transfer market, but since winning the Champions League in 2019, Liverpool have a net spend on signings of £40m. They remain a fantastic team, but a regeneration of the squad is going to be required at some point: Jordan Henderson is 31; Virgil van Dijk, Roberto Firmino and Thiago Alcantara are 30; Alisson, Mo Salah and Sadio Mane are 29. Liverpool will have a new competitor in the transfer market when that rebuild begins to take shape.
