The claimants in the lawsuit allege that the governing bodies responsible for football and rugby failed to protect players, leading to brain injuries.

The players, including 15 ex-footballers, 105 rugby league, and 260 former rugby union players, are suffering from various conditions such as dementia, Parkinson’s disease, post-concussion syndrome, epilepsy, or motor neuron disease. Several footballers who have died, including Jeff Astle and England’s 1966 heroes Ray Wilson, Martin Peters, Nobby Stiles, and Jack Charlton, have been linked to brain injuries caused by heading the ball.

John Stiles, the son of Nobby Stiles, is part of the lawsuit and has expressed his belief that this issue will be seen as the greatest scandal in sport. He called for measures such as longer recovery time after a concussion to be implemented. The FA declined to provide a statement regarding the matter.
