The High Court is set to hear the lawsuit involving 15 ex-footballers, 105 rugby league, and 260 former rugby union players who are seeking compensation for brain injuries allegedly caused by their respective sports. Furthermore, an additional 20 former footballers are in the process of filing claims.
The defendants, in this case, include various governing bodies such as the International Football Association Board, The FA, the English Football League, and the Football Association of Wales.
Notably, some of the claimants who have passed away were found to have suffered from chronic traumatic encephalopathy, a type of brain damage.

What is the status now?
The claimants in the lawsuit allege that the governing bodies responsible for football and rugby failed to protect players, leading to brain injuries.
The players, including 15 ex-footballers, 105 rugby league, and 260 former rugby union players, are suffering from various conditions such as dementia, Parkinson’s disease, post-concussion syndrome, epilepsy, or motor neuron disease. Richard Boardman, the lawyer representing the claimants, stated that this is a systematic failure by the governing bodies.
Several footballers who have died, including Jeff Astle and England’s 1966 heroes Ray Wilson, Martin Peters, Nobby Stiles, and Jack Charlton, have been linked to brain injuries caused by heading the ball.
John Stiles, the son of Nobby Stiles, is part of the lawsuit and has expressed his belief that this issue will be seen as the greatest scandal in sport. He called for measures such as longer recovery time after a concussion to be implemented. The FA declined to provide a statement regarding the matter.
